This incredible image was captured in 1968 by Ray Croswell as he walked across the parking lot at the Palisades Lodge in Swan Valley, Idaho. He knew nothing of the people in the pickup; he just knew he liked what he saw.
In 2005, Ray gave the photo to Ryan Hatfield for use in his upcoming book. In fall 2017, as Idaho’s Greatest Mule Deer, 2nd Edition was nearing completion, Ryan did some detective work and was very fortunate to reveal the identity of all four hunters in the pickup…nearly 50 years later! Dennis Barker, sitting next to the driver, had killed the big typical in the back center, and Ryan was able to determine the buck was Dennis’ deer, which Ryan had already researched for the book. This vivid, symbolic image is like a Norman Rockwell painting come to life. The vintage vehicles, the innocent conversation, the pickup load of big bucks, and the location (an epicenter of big mule deer in the glory days) – all come together to form one of the most amazing hunting images ever seen.
Following the release of the book, there was substantial interest from people wishing to have a copy of the image to hang on their wall. Thus, we’re now offering it in two sizes – 16×20 and 24×30. It’s a guaranteed conversation starter and a view that puts a jaw-dropping finish to any room.
