Idaho’s Greatest Big Game’s mission is to gather, preserve, and share Idaho’s tremendous hunting history and heritage. Since 1997, founder Ryan Hatfield has traveled as far as southern California and Alabama, and collected information as far away as Alaska, Maine, and Florida, in an attempt to collect stories, photos, and other history associated with Idaho’s hunting heritage.
While Ryan has dedicated a good portion of his own time for the past 20+ years in efforts to catalogue all of this fine history, it couldn’t have been done without literally thousands of other individuals who have stepped forward to either help track down leads or to actually provide and share their own stories. This is, without a doubt, a large-scale collaborative effort toward leaving a great hunting legacy for all those future generations who care about hunting in Idaho.
The first book to showcase this history was Idaho’s Greatest Mule Deer, released in 2004. Idaho’s Greatest Elk, the second book in the series, followed suit in 2006. Idaho’s Greatest Whitetails, the third book in the series, was released in 2010.
Our newest book, Idaho’s Greatest Mule Deer, 2nd Edition, was just released in 2018. This monumental project – including over 1200 images and 704 full-color pages – captures more history than any other work of its kind.
The next book in the series will be Idaho’s Greatest Trophy Game, featuring the top moose, sheep, mountain goat, and antelope, and will potentially complete the series.
Preserving and sharing this tremendous history is something we take great pride in, and we hope that you will enjoy not only seeing these outstanding trophies, but also appreciate the effort that has gone into making sure that as much history as possible has been saved.
